Paint the Town Red

I was creating a logo for a decorating company and this is one of the sketches I came up with. A bit too subtle for a logo, but it got a really positive reaction in my print shop. I’d love to be able to make a real screen print of this someday.

Mirrorball

A simple abstract of a mirrorball made from tiny circles.

Super Angry Plumber Man

What do you get if you cross an angry gorilla with an italian plumber? Super Angry Plumber Man of course! Inspired by knock off merchandise like Kalvin Clien, Hugo Bors and Tammy Hilfinger, this is a role reversal as the tiny baby monkey is tries to escape the angry plumber.

Nazgul

Another experiment I did by starting work on a black canvas and used a little 3D lighting. I was pretty chuffed how this came out in the end.

Remaking

Once a year there is a community challenge on Threadless where we can pick a design, get consent from the original artist and remake it. Here are three which I did. Classical Hero by Michele Ficeli, Owl Master by Terry Fan and Space Kitty by James Murphy.

Drips and Drops

I was redecorating and wanted some colour coordinated art to go on the walls. Anyway, once I started I couldn’t stop, I ended up making something like 15.

Arcade Fire

Threadless gave designers the opportunity to create a design inspired by the music of Arcade Fire. Whilst I’m pretty sure none of these won the challenge, I loved doing this and like the self initiated Radiohead project, each design is inspired by a song. Ready to Start – A joke one that I never entered! […]

Dr Mr

The inspiration behind this idea was to try and represent the story using type. From the Gentleman Doctor and his potion, to the beastly Hyde, and tragic ending of the story. The story of Jekyll and Hyde has always fascinated me as have the various film interpretations, and the way that that the core themes have influenced cinema […]

All Hue Need is Love

An idea that came to me whilst doodling, pantone swatches themed from Beatles songs. Each one is a 7″ single, with it’s own colour taken from the song title.

Sgts Peppers

As I’ve said in a previous post, sometimes I’m never sure if I’ve the “final” design is ever final. In this case, I was always tempted to go for more of a plastic glossy look. So, guess what? I did it!

Nothing is Impossible

I recently saw some of Shepard Fairey’s work in person and it blew me away, I lvd the way he uses such a limited colour palette and creates such great impact, so this design is a tribute to his work, whilst using an optical illusion I created out of Rubik’s cubes some time ago. This […]

Love Concerto 2

One thing about working on your own is that it can be hard making that final decision on a design, in the case of this, I originally produced it as a very flat vector and always wondered if it would’ve been more successful with some shading to “force” the piano a little more. This is […]
