Drips and Drops
I was redecorating and wanted some colour coordinated art to go on the walls. Anyway, once I started I couldn’t stop, I ended up making something like 15.

Threadless gave designers the opportunity to create a design inspired by the music of Arcade Fire. Whilst I’m pretty sure none of these won the challenge, I loved doing this and like the self initiated Radiohead project, each design is inspired by a song.
Ready to Start – A joke one that I never entered!
Suburban War – Inspired by the feeling of not belonging somewhere you should.
We Used To Wait – Came from a recurring thought about how no one ever writes any more.
My Body is a Cage – This came from the lyrics: my body is a cage that keeps me from dancing with the one I love, but my mind holds the key.
An idea that came to me whilst doodling, pantone swatches themed from Beatles songs. Each one is a 7″ single, with it’s own colour taken from the song title.
As I’ve said in a previous post, sometimes I’m never sure if I’ve the “final” design is ever final. In this case, I was always tempted to go for more of a plastic glossy look. So, guess what? I did it!
I recently saw some of Shepard Fairey’s work in person and it blew me away, I lvd the way he uses such a limited colour palette and creates such great impact, so this design is a tribute to his work, whilst using an optical illusion I created out of Rubik’s cubes some time ago. This has proven quite popular on my Society6 page.
One thing about working on your own is that it can be hard making that final decision on a design, in the case of this, I originally produced it as a very flat vector and always wondered if it would’ve been more successful with some shading to “force” the piano a little more. This is my second take on it. I’m still not sure which I prefer.
Threadless is great for collaborations, and a fellow member, Daniel Arzola, wrote to me with this great idea.
Initially I thought it could be digitally created, but soon it became obvious that a photograph would be perfect. WIth limited equipment and resources we made this, and it’s something that I’m really proud of, as is Danny.
Radiohead have been a favourite band of mine for a long time. Though not since the beginning. I used to be a very blinkered Rock and Grunge music fan, then I met a sweet girl from Liverpool, I fell in love with her record collection more than anything else, she introduced me to Bowie, Van Morrison and Radiohead.
When I was a kid I wanted to design album covers and band posters, I’d love that to happen one day, but until then I can just dream. After seeing Radiohead in concert for the umpteenth time last year I decided to make a series of song inspired designs.
These are the three I worked up from sketches and they were great fun to do!
I’ve been a Doctor Who fan since I was little – although it used to scare me. This was an experiment in working on a black canvas from the beginning, as the design evolved I wanted a point of light which came from the mouth. Instead of the strip of LEDs I made these into type reading “Delete”. Pretty subtle, but I was quite pleased with it.
I think this design must’ve subliminally came after the previous one, despite there being quite some time and a trip overseas between them. I was experimenting with type and drew a joined up ampersand which resembled an infinity symbol. After a community vote on colours, this was the most popular version of the design.
A James Bond inspired visual gag. A collaboration with my friend Evan from Made with Awesome. We tried various different ways of making the infinity symbol and diamonds, and also the placement on the tee. We decided to go with the vertical placement to avoid “boobage”, the tee shirt designers regular pitfall!
